TeraBox Review 2026: Is It Safe, and Is 1TB Free Actually Real?

We build a browser player for TeraBox links, so we have a stake in TeraBox existing. We'll try to make this the review we'd want to read anyway — including the parts that don't help us.

The one-paragraph verdict

TeraBox is a real cloud storage service from Flextech Inc., not a scam. The 1024GB free tier genuinely exists. It is also ad-heavy, slow unless you pay, and its privacy policy permits more than most people assume. Fine for sharing holiday videos. Not where we'd put documents, photos of children, or anything we'd mind a third party scanning.

Is TeraBox safe?

Three separate questions hide inside that one, and they have different answers.

Is the app malware? No. The official builds on Google Play and the App Store are legitimate and signed. What people call "TeraBox virus" is almost always a mod APK from Telegram, which is a different piece of software wearing TeraBox's name.

Are my files private? Partly. They're encrypted in transit and not visible to other users. But the terms allow scanning of stored content, and the service operates under jurisdictions where a legal request can reach your data. It is not end-to-end encrypted and does not claim to be. Anything that genuinely needs to stay private should be encrypted by you before it goes up, or stored somewhere that offers zero-knowledge.

Is opening someone's TeraBox link risky? No. Receiving and watching a shared link exposes nothing about you.

The 1024GB question

It's real, and it's the reason the service grew. The catch isn't the storage, it's what sits around it:

The throttle is the real product. It is applied by TeraBox's servers, which is why no app, mod, bot or player — including ours — can lift it. Anyone selling you "unlimited TeraBox speed" is selling you nothing. What actually affects your speed.

What TeraBox does well

• The free tier is enormous and doesn't expire or shrink.
• Sharing is frictionless. One link, works anywhere, which is exactly why it spread through WhatsApp and Telegram across India and Bangladesh.
• Uploads are reliable even on patchy mobile connections.
• It's genuinely free to receive. The person you send a link to never needs to pay.

What's actually annoying

• The mobile web experience is deliberately bad to push you into the app. That isn't a bug; it's the funnel. It's also why this site exists.
• Ads are frequent on free accounts, including full-screen interstitials.
• Speed on free accounts can be painful for large files, especially at peak hours.
• Account sign-up is pushed at moments when it isn't needed.
• Regional domain sprawl. 1024terabox, terasharelink, 4funbox and the rest confuse people into thinking links are fake. They're not.

Who should use something else

• Sensitive documents or work files → use a provider with zero-knowledge encryption.
• Photos you want backed up forever → use something with a clearer deletion policy.
• Large collaborative projects → see TeraBox vs MEGA vs Dropbox.

If you mainly receive TeraBox links rather than store things in TeraBox, you don't really need an opinion about any of this — you need the video to play. That takes one paste.

Is TeraBox a Chinese app?

TeraBox is operated by Flextech Inc., a Japan-registered company, and grew out of Baidu's cloud product. That lineage is why the jurisdiction question comes up — it's a fair thing to factor in, and it's the main reason we'd keep sensitive files elsewhere.

Can TeraBox see my videos?

It can technically access stored content, and its terms allow scanning. Assume anything uploaded is readable by the provider.

Is TeraBox banned in India?

No. It's available and widely used.

Is it safe to open a TeraBox link from a stranger?

Watching a video is safe. Don't install anything a link asks you to install, and don't enter a TeraBox password on any page that isn't terabox.com.
